MakeMKV Backups to MKV

Hi,

 

I've just figured out a way to turn my blu ray backups into MKV files. E.g ( By adding the file movieobject.bdmv) Is this a good method for plex? Also I've noticed that the original file m2ts is larger then the mkv (M2ts File 34.0gb - MKV 27.2)

is this just because of the different file format or have I lost quality? because I'm trying to keep it the same or lossless.

 

Is this the correct method on turning makemkv/anydvd hd backups to mkv for the true HD blu ray or is it compressing it?
