AMD A10 5800 temperature

Hi,

 

I recently build a HTPC with an amd 5800k apu and was wondering what software i should use to monitor the cpu temperature. When I try to use hwmonitor it says that the cpu is running at 70 degrees celsius but when I read the temperature from fanspeed it says it runs at 40 degrees.

i would say hwmonitor.

hwmonitor is what I would go with, just a thing to note those apu's 99% of the time are overvolted at stock I would go into the bios and undervolt it and just prime 95 stability test it (unless you have overclocked it in which case if you aren't comfortable with the temp back the clock off a bit). The safe thermal limit on them is apparently 75c.

I have a A-10 6700 in another PC, and Hwmonitor shows me over a 100ºc while playing BF3 so I don't think its reliable in some cases, I used coretemp and gave me a more realistic temps, like 52º or so on load, tested with my hand, and it was nowhere near the 100º that Hwmonitor was telling me.

On my machine, even core temp doesn't work. It indicates 70°C all the time.

I had the same problem with my 5800k, it seems like one of the temperatures from my motherboard section in HWMonitor is probably my cpu temperature. Its always the same as what my bios reports as the cpu temperature and it makes more sense than what the cpu temperature is displayed as.

 

I believe the second temperature in the motherboard section is the correct cpu temperature, I don't know if it will be the same for you or not, depending on your motherboard.
