Twitter needs phone#

So, i recently deleted my twitter account because, my account that was meant for me to follow some stuff, and use on news sites for commenting, as it left me relatively anonymous, suddenly updated my account info to use my real name, phone number, my ISP, my address, my IP address used, and photo.  I have no idea how it managed all that, as i'm pretty cautious, but i deleted it because i do not like to put my real info in the public.  

 

Anyone know what could have caused this?  I want to create another twitter account, as i liked it, but i'm worried about this. 

 

Lastly, i tried to creating an account, but it forces me to give my phone number to them.  I dont know how to skip this.  I checked their site, and its for security reasons, as it will benefit me, the user, as an extra layer of security.  But its mandatory, not optional.  Anyone know of a way to bypass this?

 

Ps, i use an Iphone, with latest updates.  No jail break.  My twitter account was only used by my ipad, iphone, and mac with Tweetdeck(barely though)
