So, was is bad adapters or drivers?  how was the monitor connected initially?

The monitor was connected using its DP in (which I know works) by a DP to miniDP cable to the GPU. I replaced that cable with a DP to HDMI adapter + HDMI cable connected to the monitor's HDMI in and I also tried another GPU miniDP out. That change coincided with the installation of the more recent Beta drivers, so it could be either that were causing the problem.

However, if you look at the problem closely you'll see that the distortion of the image occurs when I'm highlighting window borders and buttons. This would be really hard to explain by a faulty cable, monitor or GPU port. Therefore, I have to conclude that the problem was caused by the drivers or Windows 10 not recognizing the drivers correctly (or interfering).
