Hi guys! So I have finally decided to give building my own computer a go. I'm completely new to this so excuse if I ask silly questions. I'm wanting to build a computer for 4K gaming and I have a budget of around $5000 AUD (excluding monitors, mouse ect.)

I have had a look around and have come up with the following things for the PC:

CPU- Intel core i7 6800K

GPU- 2x Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1080 G1 gaming

Ram- 32GB DDR4 (haven't picked anything specific Ram wise yet)

1TB SSD

PSU- not sure yet

I am also looking at water cooling the CPU and both graphics cards.

I'm looking for any suggestions on motherboards, cases and anything else I should change or that I have missed.

Thanks for any help and suggestions!

First, there are things you need to know :

   - SLI is not supported on every games and can cause issues some times

   - Custom watercooling takes time and has to be maintained regurarly

Now for the build, since you have the money, I'd take the new Gigabyte Phoenix SLI and for the PSU the Corsair AX1000i looks nice and way beyond what you need :)

Sorry for Bad English, Baguette here

STENDHAL: CPU: i5 6600K | MOBO: ASUS MAXIMUS VIII Ranger | GPU: MSI GTX 1070 GAMING X | RAM: 2x8GB Corsair Vengeance LPX 2400MHz | Case: CM HAF XB | Storage: Kingston UV400 240GB SSD + 750GB WD Blue | CPU Cooler: Hyper 212X | PSU: Corsair RM750X

1) If you're new an AIO would be a much easier water cooling solution than a custom loop, but this will only be CPU. Your other options are to get a bracket for a cpu cooler on your gpu (I would not recommend this as the other gpu parts aren't cooled), or to use hybrid cards, or to expand a swiftech 220x or similar. There are also startup loop kits from guys like ekwb that would be easier than going it alone if you do decide on a custom loop. However if you just care about performance I'd get a big noctua or cryorig air cooler as they're cheaper, easier to setup and maintain, and similar to fairly decent AIOs in performance.

2) For the wattage I'd look at the EVGA P2 lineup for a PSU. Don't go overboard on wattage.

3) For the SSD I'd recommend a 2.5 inch over an M.2 as you wont notice the difference gaming and the GB/$ is much better. I might suggest a Samsung 850 evo or pro.

4) This build lacks a motherboard and case, and therefore lacks an aesthetic. Whatever your watercooling solution make sure the case has room for the radiators. Also consider whether you value silent builds, and whether you want a window (what material, more than one?) and a colour theme.

If you make a post contradicting mine that doesn't directly address my claims, or cites 'facts' without evidence, I'm probably not going to bother responding to it, because you probably didn't bother reading my post properly, and because life is too short. It doesn't mean I don't have an answer for you. It means I'm not dignifying you with a response.

What is this build going to be used for? Is this solely for 4K gaming?

32GB is simply overkill. I suggest you get 16GB of high frequency RAM (something like two sticks of 3600 MHz RAM would be nice) and a motherboard that can support them (something like the MSI Z170A). This is to take full potential of your SLI GTX 1080 setup.

As for the PSU, I'd get the EVGA SuperNOVA 750 G2 (because the 650W variant is not available here for some reason).

Main use will be gaming but also some video editing.

I'd honestly go for a i7 6700K then. The single core performance will outshine the i7 6800K in games and the hyperthreading should be enough for light to moderate video editing.

Ok so I have made a few adjustments after reading all this helpful advise. I have come up with this so far:

CPU- Intel core i7 6700K

GPU- 2x Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1080 G1 gaming

Ram- 16GB DDR4 3600MHz

1TB SSD

PSU- EVGA SuperNOVA 750W G2 80+ Gold Modular Power Supply

Case- Phanteks Enthoo Evolv ATX Tempered Glass Satin Black (https://www.pccasegear.com/products/35392/phanteks-enthoo-evolv-atx-tempered-glass-satin-black/) *anyone know if this case would be large enough if I wanted to still do a custom water cool loop?*

in regards to the motherboard I'm assuming the Gigabyte Phoenix SLI isn't going to work with the 6700K?? If not what would be a similar alternative?

Thanks for that advise, it also will save me a little bit of money as well!
