Does it meet all minimum specs?

Want to know which mobo to get?

Spoiler

Choose whatever you need. Any more, you're wasting your money. Any less, and you don't get the features you need.

Only you know what you need to do with your computer, so nobody's really qualified to answer this question except for you.

whatever it might be booting from has corrupted files

Have you tried a Windows installation? That looks like a kernel panic, possibly a driver is missing.

Downloaded Windows Vista just got to make a bootable disk, hopefully the key on the side of the machine still works
