I am looking to get a new phone for college and I am deciding between the Nexus 5x and the OnePlus 3. I know the OnePlus 3 is superior in about everyway for the same price, but the problem is that it is not able to be used on Google's Project Fi (from what I understand at least). I really don't want to deal with standard carriers and the complete stockness of the Nexus 5x is nice because I do like to tinker and install custom ROMs and Kernels. Is the OnePlus 3 that much better where I should deal with a normal carrier? And does Oxygen OS have a lot of tweaks and custom software to where I can customize it how I like?

I just preordered a Oneplus 3 myself and the specs are better on the OP and so is the build quality imo. The OP has a unlocked bootloader and all that sht it screams for customization and custom roms. But Oxygen OS has some neat tweaks itself. There is no Amoled screen on the Nexus.

the nexus line of phones is jammed full of hacks and mods to tinker with. my nexus 4 had more support than my (now sold) note 5 ever did.

i'd just go with the oneplus 3 though because the new nexus lineup is crap. the nexus 6 has by far the worst quality control in any smartphone imho.

Does the OP3 have wireless charging? I use my charging pad for my Nexus 5 all the time, if it doesn't that may be a deal breaker by itself :(. If it doesn't is there a way to add wireless charging? I'm not using a case but I thought there were little cards that you can stick inside the phone

Neither phones have wireless charging. :/

For what my opinion's worth (which would be a grain of salt) the Nexus 6P was the phone I wanted... Until the Oneplus 3 came along and stole my heart.

While the Nexus line has the most community support hands down, I'd say the Oneplus line comes in at a close second. Hell, Oneplus even graced us with an unlocked bootloader in the Oneplus 3 and promised that flashing custom ROMs wouldn't void warranty.

My good sir, the Nexus 6 is not part of the new Nexus lineup, and I've seen far worse a phone.

Unfortunately, those little cards were mainly manufactured for phones with removable backs, like the Galaxy S phones up until the S6.

If you're game, I'm sure you could open the Nexus 5X and put in a card (someone probably makes them) but you're out of luck with the Oneplus 3; It's a metal body phone, and that screws with wireless charging. Your only wireless charging option is a case.

i wasn't specifically alluding to the old nexus 6,i mean the nexus 6 variations in general (thus both 6P and 6).

if there's a phone that can out-worsen a phone completely devoid of any structural integrity that can be bent in half with the force of both my pinky fingers,do tell me what it is. is it made of silk?

Oneplus 3 of course o.O

Nexus 5x is a "midclass" device with a good camera, and very low storage.

Oneplus 3 even "destroys" the Nexus 6p.

MUCH (!!!) faster UFS 2.0 storage, more Ram (aggressive, but fixable with root), faster SoC, etc etc....

Just the Display is "oookay". 1080p is a bit low for the size (would be ok with LCD but not quite with a Diamond-Pentile Amoled matrix. Sensible eyes CAN (!!!) see the Pixels). And Color calibration isnt the best.

well... yeah. the oneplus 3 is a 2016 device and the 6P is a 2015 device made by one of the worst manufacturers in history (to be honest i was surprised they didn't ask LG to make the 6P).

Why worst? Huawei is one of the best right now. ;)

I honestly consider them better than LG. The G5 was a disappointment.

their phones can crack and bend under the weight of a feather (which the 6P proved efficiently) and they charge premium prices for dressed-up turds with disguised mediatek chips inside.

m8 calm down. We're talking about the Nexus devices and the Oneplus 3 here, not hating on Huawei.
