Hi all, this would be the first time that I would put together my own PC. Any advice on my proposed build would be greatly appreciated, especially if I can get a good performance at a good price.

1. Budget & Location

From $1000 to $1200 USD. I'm in a small Latin America country so my purchases must be done online and sent to courier box in the US which then they'll ship to me.

2. Aim

Mostly gaming, web browsing, and watching movies. The list of games that I want to play are Overwatch, Diablo 3, Starcraft 2, Hearthstone, Skyrim, Batman Arkham Series, Bioshock Series, Borderlands Series, Dark Souls, Darksiders, Dishonored, The Witcher Series. My current system is an old Dell XPS 1340, so all those game run rather poorly on it (Overwatch doesn't run at all). Also want a system that has some room for growth, as in another video card, more RAM, extra SSD and HDD.

3. Monitors

I do want to eventually have 2 monitors, not entirely interested in 4K. Not contemplating on getting a monitor at the moment, could use an old Dell that I have around in the meantime until I can get a bit more budget.

4. Peripherals

In the future, plan on getting a mechanical keyboard with Cherry MX Brown Switches and a gaming mouse. As for my OS, I would like Windows 10 or 7.

5. Why are you upgrading?

Because my current gaming system sucks and I can't play the games I want to play. Everything lags and stutters and looks terrible. Graphic settings in almost all my games has to be in LOW.

Here is a part list that I've been tinkering with lately trying to pick the best parts that I liked. I am using Amazon as a price guide because I have access to Amazon Prime, but I could go for another provider as long as they are reliable. I can't take advantage of any mail in rebate, so those discounts are out of the equation.

Honduras. Haven't really looked for any local shops that might have these parts but almost everything is most certainly going to be overpriced.

As others have said, best wait for the 480. After that, then you can build a much better build. Or do you need the PC now?

What is your budget/country for your new PC?

what monitor resolution/refresh rate?

What games or other software do you need to run?

Don't really need the PC right now, was planning on progressively getting the parts over the rest of the year and eventually put it together by December.

I don't want to spend all that much, just want a good computer that will run the games at a good/high setting.

Didn't really consider an AMD gpu, since I like Nvidia a bit more.

You'd be way better off buying everything at once aside from the case anyways, though I'd say that case isn't really worth it, a Define S or something is just as functional for less money the Master Case is only really solid if you're going to do a custom water cooling loop, or better yet as soon as AM4 drops it should be really solid for the money in terms of gaming performance due to the better chips and DDR4 for the iGPU

otherwise why nvidia? If you're buying a maxwell card it doesn't even support A-sync, and a 390 is faster than a 970 in general, if you're waiting until then Vega will probably be out along with a 1080 ti

Hey guys, thanks all for the responses. Got a couple of questions now that I've updated my parts list (missing the RX 480)

CPU: Intel Core i5-6600K 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor  ($219.99 @ SuperBiiz)
CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler  ($29.49 @ Amazon)
Motherboard: Asus Z170-A ATX LGA1151 Motherboard  ($150.88 @ OutletPC)
Memory: Kingston HyperX Fury Black 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-2133 Memory  ($59.99 @ SuperBiiz)
Storage: Samsung 850 EVO-Series 500GB 2.5" Solid State Drive  ($154.85 @ Amazon)
Storage: Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive  ($47.49 @ OutletPC)
Case: Cooler Master MasterCase Pro 5 ATX Mid Tower Case  ($119.99 @ SuperBiiz)
Power Supply: EVGA SuperNOVA NEX 650W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply  ($77.99 @ SuperBiiz)

My questions would be:

  1. Can I overclock the CPU using the selected Cooler and up to what speed can it be done safely?
  2. Will the Power supply be sufficient for an overclocked CPU and allow upgrades such as additional fans, water coolers, extra HDDs?
