Hi, I'm looking for info regarding a modded case build I'm attempting.

The items of relevance are the ASUS Z97 Sabertooth Mark S (Sabranco) motherboard and a GTX980ti. The motherboards first and second pcie slots are pcie3x16 and the third slot (furthest down the board) is a pci2x16.
With this build there will only be the GPU attached to the board, no other devices will be attached using any pcie slots.
For my build to work I want to use the bottom pci2x16 slot for the GPU.

The question is, will using this pcie slot affect the fps performance ?

I have read many forums suggesting that you should use the first ( top ) pcie slot because 'its nearest the cpu' ( with no real explanation as to why ) and I understand this concept of this if I was using other slots and the GPU needed to be prioritised, but, I'm hoping that in this build, as I'm only using a GPU then this would not be an issue.
With regards to the pcie version, can anyone definatley tell me that a pcie2x16 and its xfer rate is insufficient for a GPU of this nature. As I can't seem to find the typical transfer rate of a GTX980 ti.

thanks in advance :-)

I think you could make the font bigger.

OT:  A previous test from TechPowerUp showed the 980 to slow down when using PCI 2.0, but I dont remember if the issue was ever rectified. If it wasn't I would assume the 980 ti would also be affected, but again, I'm not 100% sure if this is still an issue.
