Hi,

Lately I've being doing alot of encoding of media that only supports FAT32 file system which is annoying trying to keep the media under 4GB. Which I've achieved by using a video bitrate of 2500 and Mp3 Audio 320 (Yes, I don't use AAC due to horrible cracking/static but that's a whole different story) at full 1080p which I finally got a 3hour and 21minutes film at a file size of 3.96GB. But the downside to all of this are the "BLOCKS" or block artifacts due to the lower bitrate. (As seen in these screenshots)

Video bitrate: of 2500

Blu ray:

So is it worth even bothering with a FAT32 file system to watch your media on a non smart TV, because I understand that increasing the video bit rate will solve the block problem but will increase file size and get over 4GB file size.

(Another thing to note is I don't want my kids scratching my blu ray discs, so hooking up a blu ray player isn't my solution.)

Any other methods or settings for handbrake would be great.

Cheers.

My TV has DLNA support, so I've been getting around this in the past by dropping the file on my mediaserver and streaming it. See if the TV supports other filesystems, if you haven't already.

Speedtests

WiFi - 7ms, 22Mb down, 10Mb up

Ethernet - 6ms, 47.5Mb down, 9.7Mb up

I was thinking about streaming as my next best option. But is there a affordable way to turn a non smart tv into one which I can acess my media library?

The Raspberry Pi is the easiest way to do it for a cost that won't break the bank, but unfortunately it doesn't support 4K and some people have been having problems with playing MKV files
