Go to solution Solved by Ophidio,

a 6600k and 1070 will give you an amazing gaming experience without a doubt. If you're playing at 1080p you should be able to max out like 95% of games. Anything higher then you should get what you want with high settings and 60fps.

Hey guys, i just want to know if the pc im planning to built will hold up with all the modern games and the ones coming out in a few years. Mind that upgrades around 200-300$ will take place every 2-3 years.

-i5 6600k (with a little air cooler)

-about the motherboard im not very sure on the exact model but it will be around 120$ and overclocklable

-a gtx 1070

-crosair ddr4 8gb memory

-a crosair 80+ 650W power supply

-1TB HDD ( i dont really care about SSD's)

This is a pretty great build.

I know you don't care about SSD's but you really should put an SSD in your system. Not having an SSD these days is just ridiculous.

What power supply are you using? is it just 80+? 80+ Bronze? 80+ Gold? Corsair makes good products but they do have some Power Supplies that aren't great and can actually be kind of bad.

Gaming Desktop - AMD Ryzen 7 5800X, MSI MPG B550 Gaming Plus, 32GB Cosair Vengenace LP 3600mhz, EVGA RTX 3070 XC3 Ultra,  Sabrent Rocket 4 1TB NVME SSD, Crucial P3 4TB NVME SSD, 4TB Mass storage, EVGA 750W G2, NZXT H9 Flow

it is  a 650W 80+ bronze power supply and this build will not take place for a few more months so some of the stuff may change and an ssd could be added. i just want to know if this hardware (or its price equivelant) will give me a good gaming experience (high settings 60fps) because im kinda worried about it

thanks dude. I have switched to consoles for the past year just because of the anxiety pc gaming can bring and i really am a very anxious person so hearing that this build is nice relaxes me. Thanks again, have a great day

My only suggestion is to maybe try and go with 16GB of ram instead of 8GB. 8 is still enough for gaming but having that little extra always helps going into the future.

And ssd.. if you care about system responsiveness at all.. Doesn't have to be big or expensive or fancy... just a small one for the os (and maybe a couple of games, open world where stuff is loaded dynamically will benefit and be smoother) but really.. DO get an ssd, to have an unlocked i5 & 1070 and not have one is a crime...

Ohh and MAYBE think about a 480 @200 rather than the 1070 if your going for 1080p. Benchmarks will be out before the end of the month (release on 27th I think)

I don'T PreSS caPs.. I juST Hit THe keYboARd so HarD iT CriTs :P

Which currently released game will not run maxed at 1080p with the 1070?

$200 is for 4GB vram model, the 8GB will be $250. Also, depending on the location, it might be much more expensive. For example, msrp for 1070 is $379 (converts to 338€) or the FE being $449 (399€), but here in Europe, most FE are 500€ or even more.

All the hype now is just speculation and few leaked synthetic benchmarks. Since OP is not buying right now, it might be worth considering, but it's still a downgrade from 1070, albeit cheaper. The 2 480 in CF argument is bullshit, we all know how badly CF/SLI scales.

200 without tax, as are all msrp, add import duties, vat and shipping and the retailers having higher costs and needing more margin... 200 , 379, 449 are all the base price which you should be able to get a card for with a cheap blower style cooler and no tax... and unless your planning yo go 1440 or more in the res, 4GB is plenty still.

Your shout but if your going for 1080p at 60hz, a 480 should be the sweet spot (depending on reviews) Just pointing out options.. Look at the reviews and decide (or if your an Nvidia fan, maybe even wait for a 1060 or look at 980 / 980ti used.. but a 1070 is a solid 1440p card and entry 4k card (just not quite enough grunt) so it depends on the res you want and how much your willing to pay now over possibly a little sooner.

I'm not saying do x or y, just trying to highlight options.

Because only the founders editon is available so far and retailers tend to gouge the prices while stock is low (high demand and low supply at the start)
