Best processor for gaming?

What's the best processor right now for some professional gaming WITH over clock. Right now I'm thinking the Intel Core i7-5820k is my best bet.

If it's solely for gaming, the i7 6700k will be the best and if you want to go down to an i5 6600k it will still perform admirably.

 

Your GPU will make a lot more difference than your CPU will for gaming.

2 or 4 cores is enough. 6 cores is still overkill and can reduce performance. Higher core count for gaming is still something for the future as far as I'm aware.

Depends on what games you're going to be playing 90% are going to run perfectly on the 6600k. But if you're playing arma/dayz or other very cpu intensive games you're going to want the i7.

For gaming i7-6700k is best proccesor right now i7-5820k is little bit slower but faster in rendering.

Just get the i5 with a K from either 5000 or 6000 series and you should be good. i7 has hyper-threading which won't do anything for your gaming performance. Alternatively there are some releases coming our way sometime soon I think? I'm not entirely up to date on the new releases for CPU's. But yeah i5 for gaming, if you plan on streaming or do some video editing/picture editing or other task where hyper-threading would be beneficial go for i7, but strictly for gaming its money down the drain.

The i7 6700K is the 'absolute best' for gaming. But the i5 6600K is the better bang for buck.

Why are so many people recommending an i7? Have I missed some news about games now benefiting from hyper threading?
