I was set on getting a tn 144hz for my fps games, but I borrowed my brothers ips monitor and the quality blew my mind lol. I was like whoa, this is better quality then even my former 1440p monitor lol.

Why do people keep on asking these questions anymore.....

Look if you are not a competitive gamer and don't compete or plan on competing for Esports forget about 144hz and forget about 1ms displays.

People really need to figure out what kind of gamer they are before they go off asking questions about monitors, if you just want to relax be semi competitive between mates and some ranked gameplay but mostly just want immersive expiernces you will get a 35inch IPS 5ms Freesync or G Sync 2k display for under $700 :). You go look at Esport gear and you will find the prices are over $1000 for the interesting stuff.

Figure out which boat you a definitely in then ask the right questions e.g which IPS should I get for the best value and quality that is xxinch and has x feature and resolution.

Have you tried 144hz?

No but I doubt I would care much, I cap my framerate to 70 anyway and I am not paying $1300 for a display. If you want to change my mind send me your 144hz display haha and I will try it out.

Otherwise this https://www.pccasegear.com/products/35012/lg-34um68-p-34in-ultrawide-freesync-ips-led-gaming-monitor looks pretty good to me comapred to what I am used too.  I am still using a display made in 2004 NON LED its dying I can tell because windows boots and my two displays power on and off until one of them decide which one to be primary display and it takes a while for one of them to register as being available. Hardly surprised considering I had to hack the ROM to fix the DVI port from outputting the correct identification serial to make the native resolution work.

If I am getting a new monitor I don't care about its refresh rate I care about the middle ground for the next presumable 5 years I will keep it. So I am looking at close or 2k rez IPS is a must because I do digital art and it has to be large the bigger the better with either Freesync or G-sync depending on which vendor I pick a new card from when prices come down.

You can get a 144hz display around $250 easy, but its tn. People say the smoothness is a game changer, so much so they won't go back to 60. But ips quality is so good to. Where is the ips 144hz 1ms 4k monitor with gtx 3080 lol.

IKR, I looked at displays the past year now and IPS is right in the sweet spot atm it used to cost $800 or more for a decent IPS let alone one with GPU anti-tear support. I man sure yep I could get a great IPS with 2k resolution and 144hz IF i want to pay over $800 for the display but right now I don't. I also don't really want 4K it is getting better but I still don't think a single card is capable of 60fps constant on ultra settings in most modern games let alone the future esp since mainstream cards of next year will be 6GB VRAM minimum I can see the development trends over next year starting push beyond the 4GB limitations of now.

You would be well aware that titles get made for mainstream gamers and hardware so that said I am expecting some sort of texture and model quality increase next year which will push these cards a bit more reducing the edge in 4k they might have today. Check this out https://www.pccasegear.com/category/558_1779/monitors/monitors-by-size-31

See my point haha, in order to get frame tear control the price sky rockets if you also want 120-144hz, another consideration here is Linus himself tested FreeSync and G Sync 60hz and its super smooth instead of using refresh rates to compensate for high frame rates.

It will be smooth too as the GPU is not waiting on the monitor and the monitor is not just doing whatever it wants frames get displayed as they are rendered so refresh rate is not really an issue this was the biggest selling point of Freesync and G Sync before cheaper options made thier way down the line in the form of cheap 144hz TN displays but anything with an IPS panel is going to cost you a liver if you want zero tear as-well.
