CPU Issues

So, i was overclocking my new CPU because i was getting lag spikes in CoD Black Ops 1, so not much of a heavy game. I wanted to try and fix this via overclock, but then when i went to make sure my overclock was stable, I ran cinebench and opened the Task Manager and noticed for the first 5 seconds of running cinebench my CPU Utilization uses 100% then goes as low as 16% and bounces up and down.

 

It also dropped the frequency to around 1.5 and maxes out at 3.67

Download AMD Overdrive to see status of temperature and such, I must ask how long have you had this issue?

I have had the CPU for about 2 weeks. And i have just discovered the issue today, but i have no temperature issues

That program is 100% unable to measure the temperature use AMD Overdrive, I personally suspect the motherboard is thermal throttling...

The board you got is clearly a motherboard made for 95w CPUs not 125w...

If I where you I would avoid OCing but you may be able to make it less unbearable like this...

The only reason you might have lag spikes caused by the CPU is if your CPU is pinned at 100% during gameplay. Given it's an 8120 and you're playing CoD... I'd be surprised. Sounds like something caused by network usage. Check what other apps are running on your computer using task manager, and then other computers and devices on your network. 

 

Most lag spikes can be attributed to packet priority and ques at the modem
