Help with mic setup.

Hello people,

I need some help with my mic setup, if anyone could help it would be great. So I have 2 headphones/earphones, one apple earphone set and a set of headphones (no idea what brand they are). They both have a mic attached but both only have one audio jack/cord and from what I've heard you can only use one of the features (audio/mic) unless you get an adapter. I have attempted to plug both in to different jacks (headphones in audio, earphones in mic, the only problem is my mic is only playing sound that is coming from my computer for example if I was playing music it would play that through my mic instead of my voice. Not sure what to do here I have researched a bit but i haven't found anything useful. If you guys could tell me if this setup works and how to fix it.
