So i was using an antec 750w truepower classic (not sure if it's the name or not). I believe my power supply was dead because i cant power on my system even i pressed the power button. The motherboard light was green btw. I turned off everything including switching the switch at the power supply to 0 turning off the socket switches. Today when i try turning on my pc it worked again. The power button was working and everything was normal and functional. i want to ask if someone has encountered this problem before and what's the logic behind this. I am 100% sure the computer was not able to turn on two weeks ago.

Then the other day:

I have recreated the problem that i cant power my pc on if i leave my socket switches on and continuing powering my pc even if i am not using it, i cant power it on the next day (within 24 hrs). After that i switched off the switch for the socket and waited for around 3 hours later it powers back on again. I had this problem before and im not sure if it's my power supply problem. Should i change my power supply. The one i am using now is the antec true power classic 750w and i have an asus z87-k motherboard.

can anyone tell me what kind of problem is this? I've never got a fix for it. can anyone tell me what's the problem and how should I fix it. Thanks in advance

Make sure your front panel connectors are secure on your pin outs. Sounds like maybe a loose connection there.

You can also try bypassing your front panel connectors and "short" the connection to see if it boots up. Basically take a screw driver and touch the 2 power pins on the front panel connectors only long enough to see if it boots up. If it does, then its your case thats at fault.

I don't think its front panel connectors since I was able to power it back on after a few hours. If it's loose then it occurs randomly. My guess only

it could be the button on the front panel thats the issue, not necessarily the cable or pin out. This little trick would rule that out.

Do you have a photo on how to do that or a link perhaps?

Take and unplug the 2 power pin connectors from the pins, then take a small flat headed screw driver and touch both pins briefly with your power supply on and the PC should boot up.

So if your case button fails to boot your PC up but this works just fine, then its the case thats at fault and not the PSU or Board.

This test is not quite right yet since I've switched off my power after I used my pc last time. So it might've reset something in the power supply. To test if it's really the button is faulty then I'll have to leave my power switch on and wait for maybe half day to a day before testing it again. If you understand what I mean.

Yea. When you notice it again before doing anything that you seem to know works, test this method out and see if the PC will boot up.

i have waited for over 12 hours now and i have tested the power button and the screwhead method and it doesnt work. So i know that now it's either the motherboard or the psu is faulty

Yea, Power Supply would be the cheapest test unless you have a friend that has another one you can test with to verify.

Most good power supplies have circuits that detect over current, over voltage, etc. These circuits usually shut down the supply to prevent damage. Also, usually, these circuits are reset by removing the AC power by unplugging the power cord or switching it off if it has a switch.

In this case it sounds as though the supply is detecting an "over current" fault when it starts up and is going into the protective shut-down mode. This could be because the over-current circuits are faulty and miss-firing, or some component in your system is faulty and drawing too much current.

You can start by disconnecting the drives - hdd, ssd, optical - and removing the graphics card to see if it will consistently POST. (It helps if you can use the IGP while testing).

If it POSTs - that is, it starts up, though it may "beep" because of no video - you can then re-install the graphics card, etc, one at a time to see if there's a particular part that causes the shut-down.

A sieve may not hold water, but it will hold another sieve.
