My Oculus Rift is very close to finally shipping but I'm thinking about canceling it because so far I've not seen any games come along that all the games press think is a great example of VR. What would be the best games to play on the Rift?

BTW: Don't suggest canceling and buying a Vive instead, I do not have the minimum required space.

I spend too much on my PC. Then I spend even more on my Sim Rig. Damn, this stuff's expensive.

The games I've seen so far in VR look absolutely terrible, total lack of actual content and look like they were made in paint :/

I wouldn't spend boatloads of money on it until it's actually 100% usable and looks as amazing as I know it can.

games like Elite Dangerous and project cars on the Vive/Rift certainly do not like they have been made in paint.

the available games catalog is quite good on both HMDs for a new platform, and ever improving. I understand some people who haven't tried VR are still only craving the big AAA traditional GTA-5 type games. But those games take many years from concept to realization. There are some of those, but the games with simpler graphics still have great immersion in VR and often novel and fun gameplay mechanics. If you follow the Vive sub reddit you will see that people are having a blast both in room-scale and non room-scale games. Again people who haven't tried it will obviously be craving traditional type games only.

The best experience I've had so far is is Flight simulator X (available on steam fairly cheap) and an add on available online called Flyinside FSX. It's amazing. The presence is beyond anything else I've played. And all reviews across the board are great. I've had a single lesson flying in a Cessna 172 and I've sat in a piper, and the scale is just spot on. I can only assume the 747 cockpit is too. With the other mods I have, such as weather mod active sky next, it's as close as most of us will get to flying a plane.

Another great sim is American truck simulator (I'd love to suggest European truck simulator 2 as well, but currently cannot get the VR to work properly. May be my issue)

Project Cars is a blast - as is i-racing

The climb is great - will be better with Touch

And Adrift it awesome once you have your VR legs.

What GPU are you using to run at 1.5x scaling? I have a GTX 980, but i'm concerned about low frame rates.

980ti @ 1500MHz

I would try x1.25 with a decent 980 overclock, or go for lower settings and x1.5

Also pro tip : in Elite Dangerous change your HUD to dull green. It helps with readability

Cool thanks for the tip. I'll have a look. I may play with the settings. I run elite at 135% scaling and medium settings (other than textures, they go to ultra) and that runs fine. I'm looking at getting a GTX 1080 when 3rd party cards are available and not extortionately high.

Even if t here isn't a lot of new VR games coming out yet, there are heaps of previous games that have added VR support such as source games Half Life 2. Portal, Garry's Mod, etc (it'd be cool to play garry's mod on a cineamod server lol) or the 3d VR Cinema app is there too, lot of cool apps you can test out b4 there's more games coming out too. VR Arcade looks fun imo, some other games with VR support include; Grand Theft Auto V, Jedi Academy, Hawken (which looks awesome), etc lol

CPU AMD Ryzen 5 3600 6 Core 12 Threads Motherboard TUF B450M-PLUS GAMING RAM 32GB Dual-Channel DDR4 GPU 11GB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080Ti Case be quiet! White OS Linux Mint Cinnamon
