So the quest continues for my gaming laptop. I really like everything about the lenovo y700 except for the available storage space. I want at least a terabyte hard rive and an ssd. Lenovo doesn't have an option for both an ssd and hard drive. I was wondering if I could store my games on an external hard drive. Would that work out for me?

I wouldn't do it, just get it with a hdd and upgrade it to a 1 tb ssd, you can find them from $240. (the $240 one is from crucial)

Got an Android, never going back to apple again (notice I spelled apple with a lowercase and Android with an uppercase)

That one would kind of stretch my budget and for that price I would just rather get an MSI Ge62 Apache Pro

I tried that once. Slow. Slooooooow. Like, line at the DMV slow if everyone who worked there was a sloth on Xanax.

If the price difference between the smallest HDD and a 1TB SSD on the system is broad enough, I'd go with @Maximoose's idea.

I enjoy buying junk and sinking more money than it's worth into it to make it less junk.

He was looking at an SSD. Here is a HDD:

Hi there :)

Just a note from me: have in mind that not all games will allow you to install them on an external HDD. A boot SSD is a very good idea as it makes quite the difference in terms of responsiveness, transfer speeds and loading times. Games don' really get affected by the storage's performance for anything but the loading times so you should be fine playing them from HDDs.

For an internal one I would suggest WD Blue

You can also opt for a SSHD for the laptop as it would give you quite the boost for the OS and the most played games (again, only for the loading times).

Another option may be a dual drive like the WD Black 2 as it gives you a 120GB SSD and a 1TB HDD in the same enclosure as two separate drives.

If you want some options for external drive feel free to post back. :)

That seems like a good option. You would roughly need about 40GB for the OS and the updates and will be left with about 70GB for games and demanding applications (if you decide to store them on the SSD) and a full TB for everything else. :) I'd go with that.
