The reference model can get to 2000 if you turn the fan up, so unless you lose the silicon lottery majorly all of them

I've seen at least 6 different ones but know there are more, I'd guess there are going to be 20+ soon enough

May i ask what that lottery is? Cause i always hear it, but never got someone to explain to me what that actually is. Something like the lottery to actually get a good model of the card?

Then, a better question, which one do you all think will be clocked highest "STOCK"?

The overclock-ability of chips like CPUs and GPUs vary per individual chip:

 

some i5 6600k can overclock to 4.8 without touching the voltage, yet some need a lot more voltage and they wont boot/be a lot hotter than the "luckier ones".

 

Its called the silicon lottery because "who knows what you are gonna get", a great OC chip, or maybe not so much.

The lottery refers to how slight variation in manufacturing can cause the cards performance to vary depending on how few or many imperfections on the die, hence causing a large potential difference between an unlucky bin vs a lucky one, this is why some cards can barely overclcock at all, and others can push out more clock speed despite using a lower voltage.

Since transistors are so small and humans and physics there is error. We have got it so well that we can have high yields and make profit on each dye.  But with millions of wafers comes errors and differences. The major ones go from i7s to i5s or i3s depending on what works and what doesn't. Then there is the rest that is allowed otherwise you would never make enough and that is the lottery part. I buy 2 GTX980tis. One is stable at 1580mhz while one can't get about 1490mhz. It is just physics and a lottery. That is also were cherry picking and binning come from. They take the best and sell them for lots more

Jay did some testing with those cards, and it turns out that 2088MHz is the highest clock it can run. Sure watercooling will be better for lower temps and silence, but it won't help you much with OCing 10xx series.

I even saw a lot of members on our forum posting pictures of that 2088MHz number ... seems like we are "locked" there xD
