AT2020plus USB static in Sennheiser HD280Pro's when monitering through mic

I am getting static in my Sennheiser HD280Pros when using them through my Audio Technica AT2020plus USB mic. It only happens through these headphones and I have no idea why. I was thinking getting an extension 2.5mm jack might help because the cord on these headphones are quite heavy, but that probably wouldn't work. Any advice or help would be great.
