Hello everyone!

 

So I'm trying to build a 2nd dedicated streaming PC for streaming games on Twitch.


I will be streaming at 720p 60FPS with best possible encoding settings using OBS Studio; however, I might try 1080p 60FPS later on.

I tried to use my gaming rig (see it here) but my CPU didn't like it and my PC performance wasn't pleasing!

 

Below is my parts list. I tried to keep it as cheap as possible without sacrificing a lot of performance.

I'm no expert when it comes to AMD stuff, but I know that I might be able to get the same performance for lesser cost. (That's why I'm here)

I haven't bought anything yet, so please feel free to share your input

Notes:

  • For capture card I will be using Live Gamer Extreme GC550
  • This build will be for streaming only and will not be used for video recording or storage. 

My second option will be using my laptop, but it's somewhat an old one. It has an i5-520M 2.4GHz CPU (2 cores, 4 threads) with 8GB RAM. Do you think it might work?

Maybe, try it before building a whole new computer!

 

I would highly recommend UPGRADING your current computer rather than building a completely new computer.

A 4790k should do the trick. Also, use hardware encoding if you aren't already!

First, thanks for your reply.

 

Regarding using my laptop, I was thinking about upgrading it's CPU with an i7-640M 2.8GHz. It uses the same socket and has the same wattage, but it will cost me around 50-70 USD to get a used one.

I chose to build a whole new dedicated PC because it seemed to me that I will get better performance than upgrading my current 4690K with less cost.

 

Do you think I could get more from an AMD build with the same cost?

Not a bad idea, in any case.

Upgrading your current PC is really the way to go, you already have a relatively recent platform.

It'll take longer to set everything up and you'll use a lot more power if you have two PCs.

 

And seriously, try hardware encoding if you aren't already, it might actually fix the problem (at least at 720p60)

I use x264 encoding. I tried nvenc but I didn't like it, since it requires more bitrate and impacts my FPS.

Err what? You can set the bitrate to anything you want.

And you'll get higher FPS, if anything, since your CPU is free to do other stuff, like run the game.

 

It doesn't put any stress on the GPU, the encoder is a separate chip on the GPU PCB.
