I'm no expert, but I think overclocking your monitor is safe.  The worst that could happen is you will get skipped frames, weird artifacts, or other anomalies which will indicate your monitor can't go that fast.

So. Overclocking isn't safe in general. And apparently it's not safe for monitors as well. Buuut. Since I'm cheap and I want to get 75hz out of my laptop monitor, if I knock down the resolution of it, and bump up to 75hz, is it still unsafe?

I heard not to overclock laptop monitors (people saying they're likely to die), desktop displays with HDMI or DisplayPort connections are fine but overclocking a monitor might damage it. It's not like CPUs or GPUs since those usually have protection from bad user decisions :P

We have a NEW and GLORIOUSER-ER-ER PSU Tier List Now. (dammit @LukeSavenije stop coming up with new ones)

You can check out the old one that gave joy to so many across the land here

@Energycore  Double post but...

Would a slight oc, 65hz for example, also cause damage easily?

I don't know, I've never tinkered with a laptop. Attempting to overclock my analog VGA monitors resulted in som horrible color tearing but no damage. But laptop monitors may work differently.

There's also the fact that, if you brick it, it will be a lot harder to replace the display.
