ETS2 not handling controller well

I use an Xbox one controller (wired), and while it works flawlessly in every game, ETS2 does NOT like it.

 

For example, on the triggers (LT and RT) that I use for brake/accelerator, about 1/2 of the way down they engage (in the setup menu it shows that as soon as I press it it goes). For steering on the left stick, the first 1/2 or 1/3 is fine as you would expect (maybe a little less sensitive perhaps), then after that it's like you just slammed the stick to the end (ie you go from 40% to 100% real quick).

 

I haven't figured out why this is happening, as everything shows as working properly in the settings, both in my OS and in game. It's set up as a controller as well.  If anyone can figure this out, PLEASE tell me, as it is honestly a very irritating experience.

I'm using DS4 controller and I have no issues, only had one issue but I fixed that by restarting the game.
