Looking for a new GPU

StonerFriendly

Hello, I plan to get a new GPU for my PC. I currently have an AMD 1090t running at 3.6GHz(I can get it up to 3.8) and a ATI(AMD) HD4870. I was thinking of waiting for the GTX 1060 to release but am unsure if my CPU could even handle it (I know official specifications have not been released). I'm not really sure of the best GPU I can get without getting to much of a bottleneck, any suggestions?

That is quite an old CPU, personally I would suggest doing a new build from the ground up. If I remember correctly, that cpu is from ~2010, and will be a pretty significant bottle neck. You are better off saving 600-900$ and building a new rig as you will get far superior performance for your money.

Building a new PC from the ground up isn't an option at this time.

Ok. In that case, I would recommend a 960, either the 2gb or 4gb model, whichever fits your price range better.

You will be fine with someone like a R9 380, so maybe a Rx 470 or GTX 1050 if there is one.

then wait till you can get a new cpu. your current processor is too old and might bottleneck the card you decide to buy

Passmark.com gives that CPU a score of 5680, putting it around the same power as a Skylake i3.  Personally, I would take a hard look at the new RX-480 once it comes out.

However, to really know how powerful of a system you need, please answer the following questions...

1.  Resolution & refresh of current monitor and if you plan on upgrading it anytime soon?

2.  What type of games do you play most?

3.  High FPS or pretty picture more important to you?
