I am looking to build a gaming PC that I can also use for general work purposes. I have a budget of around $550 without including OS or Monitor. I will be buying OS separately and will be using my TV for a monitor for the foreseeable future until I have extra money. I would greatly appreciate the help. I would like to be able to play Fallout 4 on High settings and any MOBA on maxed out settings. Thank you in advance! :)

use the iGPU for the time being and wait for the rx 480 if possible.

would there be a cheaper alternitive to this motherboard?  MSI H170A PC Mate ATX LGA1151 Motherboard

just get the cheapest motherboard you can find, it doesn't affect gaming performance at all, you just get less features.

There is..... but buying an expsnive CPU and GPU and then getting the CHEAPEST POSSIBLE deal for every other part isn't really an ideal way to build a CPU, ESPECIALLY when it comes to powersupplies, and motherboards.

If that's what you want, go with herman's build. it allows you an I5 instead of an I3. gives you a cheap motherboard and cheap power supply (although that power supply is actually decent). I recommend avoiding the H110 chipset. The chipset itself is slower, and CAN affect performance in some situations. get a H170 or B150 chipset.

I still do not recommend getting the CHEAPEST possible thing, even when on a budget. there is a REASON these are so cheap beyond basic connectivity features. But he is right in that a motherboard often does not directly compromise performance.

But its your money. do as you will. (Stretching the budget to 600 bucks and waiting for a RX 480 is still 100% the right way to go)

What are the specs for the RX 480? I did a small amount of research earlier but couldn't find anything

not sure, but it's said to outperform the r9 390/gtx 970.
