currently have 4670k

r9 390

16 gig ram

ssd

etc etc etc

I wanted to get up to i7 - 6 cores

was thinking

i7 4930k - buy used £250 - £487 new

i7 5820k - buy used £250 - £330 new

i7 6800k - buy new £370

32 gig ram

use existing r9 390

but its the price of the mother boards for the above 3 cpus - im looking at £180 for the cheapest motherboard - ive never spent that amount of money on a mb in the past!

I really want a i7 6 core pc - whats the cheapest way to get there?

I have a 7950 that was replaced by the r9 390, so the 7950 would go back in the 4670k pc meaning (if I do go to the i7) id have 2 very capable gaming machines.

Are you sure you need 6 cores? It's quite overkill unless you're video editing or something along those lines.

Why do you want the upgrade?  I want to make sure you have a legitimate reason so you're not just wasting your money :)  Especially since it sounds like you already have a very good system.

Solve your own audio issues  |  First Steps with RPi 3  |  Humidity & Condensation  |  Sleep & Hibernation  |  Overclocking RAM  |  Making Backups  |  Displays  |  4K / 8K / 16K / etc.  |  Do I need 80+ Platinum?

If you can read this you're using the wrong theme.  You can change it at the bottom.

I render in 4k about 2 times per month in prem pro, to be honest my 4670k at 4.2 can handel this quite easily.

I just wanted to go to 6 cores, and I really want to get up into the i7 range, im open to sugestions, to get me up into the i7 but id like 6 cores, unless you guys convince me to stay 4 core but move to i7.

I should of said I also have a 2 core e8000 pc that I run a teamspeak and and rust server on, I wanted to move this to the 4670k pc and build myself the i7 I spoke about above, I do know 6 cores is not really needed, I guess I just want to get up to the i7 cpus - god this is so hard.

yes I do, its the price of the motherboards that get me though, that's why I don't mind getting used 4930k / 5820k

money is not the issue, but that does not mean I will splash the cash where its not needed lol

if I go used, I can get i7 6 core, new mother board and 32 gig of ram for around £600 to £650, as I have monitors cases ssds already here waiting

I just want best bang for buck while moving up to the i7s, my 4670k still kicks ass

the 5820k is more than enough, get that instead then.
