GTX 1070 or RADEON RX 480 for Video Editing

Built my second self build early this year, I have been using a really old AMD GPU in it whilst waiting for the newer GPUs to be released. Now that's close I'm debating on which to get either a GTX 1070 or a RADEON RX 480, for my editing system.

Premiere Pro CC is the editor and I'm looking at using GPU Acceleration to speed up render times and timeline playback.

Which would possibly be the more suitable GPU?

Search openCL vs CUDA.  Example of the type of results you want to see below.  You will have to wait for newer benches.

Easy there, I was just making a point that dual 480 is faster. I was not suggesting he get dual 480s, in fact I specifically said he should just get a 1070. I know dual 480s doesn't make sense, but it is faster for the same price. That's all.

Edit: @matteallsop I also see that you're using Premier Pro CC. Adobe products as far as I know use CUDA to their advantage, so the 1070 would be even better for this case.

Yeah that's what I was thinking, purely for the benefit of CUDA. I'm putting in an order for a 1070 once it becomes available!

Thanks for this answer interesting that Adobe is adopting wider use of CUDA and OpenCL, still I've waited months and have a build up of stuff to work on so I'm likely to order a 1070. The main reason is because it's out tomorrow and I need to get my system up properly, can't wait around to see if AMD will release an equivalent.

Thanks for your post!!

  • 2 months later...

Adobe programs always utilize CUDA cores way too effectively.
