Hey so this is my first time posting anything on this forum and I'm not sure if this is in the correct spot but I'm getting into mining for litecoins and electricity prices is not a problem for me because my house is solar. So my question is whether I should get the AMD R9 380 (or something better if you guys have a recommendation I have a budget of about 230~250) for litecoin mining and what the hash rate is. I've already tried to look online for any specs but was unable to find any.

My current specs are:

Intel i7 4790k

16GB G.Skill Sniper series

Nvidia GTX 970 ASUS Strix (yes ik I can mine on this but I want a second graphics card so I can play my games at the same time)

2 Samsung 850 Evos 250GB in raid 0

1TB WD Black as backup for raid 0 array

Dunno if mining LTC with a GPU is still profitable.

But awesomeness10120 is right in advising you get an RX 480 once they release, at the end of June, or a few weeks later, if you want to get a non-reference board. The RX 480 will be much faster than an R9 380, and also much cheaper. They'll cost $200 USD for 4 GB variant, or $230 for the 8 GB variant.

As wrong as it could possibly be. There's a dedicated subforum to mining. Don't make a new thread, though, I already asked for a mod to move this topic there.

But anyway. Don't mine. Even with free electricity, mining is just not worth it. If you have free power, invest that into scientific research such as Boinc or F@H, rather than wasting it on pure speculation (history lesson: investing into the stock values caused a crysis in the past).

Moved to the folding/mining section.

And @delta7014 don't feel bad, you got it about as close as possible without being correct :P
