Folding@Home CPU Client cannot retrieve work

Go to solution Solved by raphidy,

You have 12 threads, make two cpu loads in configuration: 1 x 6 cores and 1x 5 cores. I think there's a lack of 12 cores work unit. Leave 1 or 2 core for the gpu. Had this problem with dual e5 2670.

For the last couple days, my CPU has been sitting idle on one of my F@H clients.

I set the error log to verbosity 5 and got:

"19:17:15:WARNING:WU00:FS00:Failed to get assignment from '171.64.65.35:80': Empty work server assignment
19:17:15:ERROR:WU00:FS00:Exception: Could not get an assignment"

It tries to connect to all kinds of IP's, but can't seem to find anything. I have tried restarting my computer, restarting my client, deleting the CPU and adding it again, deleting the cpu slot, restarting, then adding it again.  I have had no change of drivers or network configurations, my router has not changed, it just stopped working from one week to the next.  The GPU client is folding happily away, and getting new assignments just fine. I also tried pulling all my OC's back to stock and it did nothing. Is anyone else having this problem/have any ideas?

Thanks!

I had a similar issue with old nVidia GPUs about a year ago, and how it was explained to me was that it means that there are currently no work units that can be assigned for your system configuration at this time. I have a couple 8400 GT's that I had running but they weren't getting work even though they were on the supported list.

I read something like that on a forum from like 2 years ago, but I wasn't sure if it was applicable, since they have been doing CPU work for so long that they are unlikely to run out of tasks. Apparently last time it happened a corporate sponsor donated a ton of time unexpectedly, and just wiped out their GPU work load.

I guess it would be good news for them if they are doing so well that they don't have to assign anything.

That actually sounds very likely. I do know that starting this last weekend there is a major drive in support of an individual that is nearing his final moments with cancer. He was always a huge supporter of F@H so his friends started a campaign online to get people to fold in his name and they are trying to reach this crazy huge goal of PPD for him before he passes.

This was an immediate fix. Literally took 2 seconds to apply and have new work loads. Thanks!
