so I've been digging around finding some Intel processors for an upgrade to my computer and i have settled on 2 (but if you can recommend one in the price range for these that would be awesome also) the i5 4460 I've heard good things about this processor and i heard its a pretty good CPU for gaming in general the next is an i7 2600k and I'm torn between the two if someone could help me narrow it down that would be fantastic

Generally, the i7 2600K will perform better IF you pair it with a proper Z67/Z77 board - you can get a very solid OC on it.

Huh. Then I guess a Haswell I5 is the best for you. Look for prices on used 4440 / 4460 / 4570 / 4590 / 4670 / 4690. Pair any of them with an H81 mobo and you'll be good.

if you are also buying a new motherboard then go for the i5 6400 skylake, better efficiency and better performance in my testing.

No - the i7 2600K is 20% behind in single core but about 40% better in MC.

so is MC an exception or will it run better for games all around

It will run better in DX12 and probably the same in DX11
