I built my computer about 4 months ago and haven't had any problems with it until a week ago. Last week I powered the computer on and it froze on the Asus Bios logo, I power cycled and it started up as normal. Then two days ago AI Suite popped up and told me that my motherboard temp was -1 C, so I clicked on the popup and my voltages were all WAY off from normal.

I highly doubt that it is reading correctly, as I don't think the computer could operate with the voltages this far off from where they should be. Also, I'm pretty sure the fans weren't spinning that fast :P

Today I show up and my monitor is black with a mouse cursor in the center that I cannot move, the computer is powered on, but my keyboard lights are not. I power cycled and got three beeps with the bios saying my CPU voltage is too high. A few power cycles later and I was able to boot up with the computer operating fine and AI Suite showing that my voltages/fan speeds are all normal as well.

I would assume that this is more likely to be a problem with the motherboard, rather than the PSU, correct?

Yeah I would check the motherboard and the ai suite first. If it is still giving the weird voltages and other readings in the bios you could always try setting the voltage for the cpu. 62,198rpm is a really nice fan speed...I want a cooler that can spin that fast :D

Have you tried resetting all your bios settings? I am pretty sure it is your motherboard, not your psu.

Okay, a bit more information:

BIOS reads the same crazy voltages and speeds, but hwmonitor does not.

All BIOS settings are back to default, and BIOS was updated to the latest version.

Just uninstalled AI Suite, and will wait for the next time it happens to see if only the BIOS will show messed up voltages.

It wouldn't bother me if that was all that happened, but the computer locks up with only a black screen and cursor, sometimes it takes several power cycles to fix it.

It only locks up around the same time that AI Suite and the BIOS have the crazy readings, so I would assume that they are related.

  • 2 weeks later...

Well it doesn't do anything now, so at least I don't have to spend any more time troubleshooting it :)

I can do a BIOS flashback and the LED blinks like normal, but other than that nothing happens, it doesn't even attempt to boot.

Have you tried removing some ram sticks?

And if it boots up try doing some prime95 or something, its possible that the hangups are cpu related..

if it still doesnt boot try swapping another cpu in it if you have one, otherwise i'd go RMA on it!

gl!

I tried different CPU's, different RAM sticks, different PSU's, everything I could think of.

I RMA'd the motherboard and purchased another motherboard to setup a spare computer while I wait to get the RMA finished, all my components are working fine in the new motherboard.

Sounds like you possible had a power surge. Have you had any bad weather as of late ??? or power outages??. That's screwed the motherboard

While not impossible, it is unlikely... I have two other computers plugged into the same circuit and they are just fine.
