First of all:  Hi!  First time LTT forum user

I'm having some annoying issues with my RAM that have been going on for a few years now, but I'm finally fed up with it and I want to get it fixed.

Basic spec outline:

i7 3820 (can't overclock it whatsoever, not sure if that is due to the RAM or cheap NZXT 650 watt PSU)

Asus P9 X79LE

64 gigs of some random RAM (I'm guessing it's Samsung or Crucial, haven't checked though) in an 8x8 setup

AMD Radeon HD 7970 Ghz Edition

I want to start this off by saying that I got this as a prebuilt years ago.  I was dumb at the time and didn't realize building your own PC was a thing (literally found out about building your own once the return window for this computer was over).  iBUYPOWER had a sale on RAM (the 64 gigs was SUPER cheap), and dumb me decided that would be a worthwhile upgrade.

Oh well.

Since getting this PC I've had blue screens and crashes at least once a week (average) for the past 3-4 years, and nearly everytime it says on the blue screen that memory management caused this issue.

I ran the Windows Memory Diagnostic tool recently and it said there was no issues with the ram.  However, that doesn't seem right.  The blue screens/crashes still occur frequently and it says in Windows that I have 56 Gigs of RAM (It said 60 gigs of ram about a year or so after having the computer).  So something definitely isn't right.

I have two options and I want your opinions on them:

1.  Run some memory diagnostic tools (I'd like some ideas as to which ones) to determine which sticks are faulty and replace those

2.  Buy some new RAM, probably 16 gigs of some 1866mhz Corsair or similar.

I'd like to save as much money as possible, so I think option 1 would be the best idea.  However, I have no idea what other tools to run and what information to look for in the results.

Any ideas?  Thanks.
