Can't remove windows.old folder

I have the windows.old that I cannot remove from my main drive. when i try to it tells me this

 

 

which is odd because i am the only user (and admin) in my system. i also tried using DIsk Cleanup but it doesn't pick up the folder.

Use CCleaner, make sure you tick the "Old Windows Installation" when it asks you what you want to clean. This will remove the Windows.old folder

You should be able to take ownership and then you will have permissions.  Or maybe try running explorer with "run as admin" option, even if you are one already.  If nothing else works, you can fire up an Ubuntu live USB stick and it will delete anything you want

Windows has a default program called 'Disk cleanup'. run it as admin and select the old windows installs and then his delete files. It is also safe to tick all the boxes to clean up space. it will remove windows log and temp files.

I'm slowly falling in love with bootable environments.

 

Anything from cloning your OS disk to removing malware to telling Windows who's boss.

already used disk cleaner, but the folder still remains..

i'm slowly (but surely) migrating to ubuntu. but i'm a bit ends deep with Windows at the moment 

 

also i already tried taking ownership. tells me it failed to take ownership of subdirectories

Well everyone else had some nice suggestions but it looks like it's time to put away the kid's toys and pull out the big guns   UBUNTU TIME!!
