1. Budget & Location

Looking anywhere from 500-800 $ U.S.

Southern Cali USA

School/game desktop pc for my newphew.

3. Monitors

Any decent/good 1080p will do.

4. Peripherals

already have the Windows O/S

5. Why are you upgrading?

Looking for different build plans/advice I want to build a pc for my newphew for when he starts college this winter. Looking for something between some games nothing high end probably enough for some moba games and shooters. With some wiggle room that he can use for school aswell. Could start super cheap with future upgrades but if something can be planned from anywhere from 500-800 U.S. bucks

It is a bit overbudget, but your nephew will be soooo happy with that system! the R9 380 can play most AAA games on medium-high, and it will just shred MOBAs and FPSs, even BF4/Hardline! Plus, it has 2 GPU slots, so he can add a second one for crossfire for maximum performance! All in all, he wont need any upgrades for a year or two, and the first one should be getting an HDD for Game files.

Why are you spending $50 on 8GBS of ram? Why are you buying a Z board with a locked CPU? Really don´t think he needs a headset. And you can find a better Mouse and Keyboard bundle than that for cheaper.

Speed, and quality.

Quality and upgrade-ability.

don't fck around, everyone needs one!

i prefer that because i have used it and it is very good for prolonged periods of time on the PC, for reports and etc.

... You don´t realize how dumb that sounds do you?

Not what I ment. You could get a just as quality motherboard for cheaper, especially one that doesn´t have to be a Z board, since you can´t OC the i3.

I would disagree with that wholeheartedly. The teachers at my school get by fine. I get by fine. My father get´s by fine. And everyone at my father´s office gets by fine. Try again.

If people recommended only things they´ve used, then everyone would have the exact same shit.

Not meant to make that argument. So, I upgraded: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/ZNV2Fd I think it is a a bit better, and if he is like me he wont be making an OC to it. Anyways, this is what i would call a futureproof system.

A future proof system with a CPU that´s over 2 generations old and not even being sold new anymore?

I don't think that he would need a better CPU.Word and LoL are p*ssies in front of it.

Besides, you are the superior member. You have 6.6K posts. Go ahead and make it yourself, fix my build, i don't know what you are going to do. IF you can build it better, why wait?! go ahead and make the excellent bang for the buck build at around that budget. Hell, I am a guy that is in the middle of his finals.

not writing this to make you angry or feel bad in any way.

I dont understand... why are you writing to me to state your superiority on me? I dont think you know a thing about launchpads, music production, handball, etc.

Because you know something more, you dont need to brag about it. If i could, i would have 6K posts here too, and know all that. BTW, I am in the 7th grade, in greece going to 8th. I dont really know that much, and I know that i dont. Go brag if you want to don_svetio if you want. I just made a proposal, the OP can either take it or leave it.

again, not meaning to piss you off or make you feel bad in any way.

Gaming for college?  Really?  Sure he wouldn't be served better by buying a business laptop off of eBay, with Windows 7/8/10, upgrading it to a SSD, and a proprietary docking station (for connection to an external LCD/printer)?

$300-$400 on eBay gets you a Dell Latitude E6440 with 1080p screen (or a similar Thinkpad or HP), throw in another $100-$200 to upgrade it to 8/16gb RAM, and a decent SSD, another $30 for a dock, and another $200 for 23"/24" external LCD, and the nephew will have a nice system.  Top it off with a Kensington lock so he can lock the computer to a desk so it doesn't get stolen so easily.

School is so expensive these days, and social opportunities are so abundant, that using one's time in school for gaming seems to be a giant waste.  Nephew most likely is more in need of a laptop.

And seriously i5 CPU, but still handicapping it with a HDD?
