Hello. I did not know whether this is the right forum to pose such a question on. Anyway

Many of the websites that I visit ask me for a security captcha (Attention Required!, or One More Step) before I'm allowed to view it. In the "Why am I seeing this?" section of that page it said that my computer might be infected by Malware. I used MalwareBytes to scan my system, and Avast Internet Security to run a full system scan overnight. I still see those captchas though. So I went onto Project Honeypot's website and it scanned my IP and showed me that my IP has been used for sending spam emails ("Mail Server" and "Dictionary Attacker"). Here's the link to the page -> http://www.projecthoneypot.org/ip_124.40.246.77

Can anyone tell me what exactly I can do - if anything - to make this go away?

Thanks in advance

Most sites ask you to confirm that you aren't a bot, through the use of security captchas.

Without seeing the exact site(s) you noticed this on, I can't tell you for sure, but I'd bet that the reasons they give are generic, and everyone sees them.

The real question is why your IP is blacklisted on PH website. I  have no idea. You can always change your IP if necessary by unplugging your router for several hours (may take over 12 so be prepared to leave it overnight)

The page you've linked says at the bottom that the IP was whitelisted on May 8th and that the whitelist was in place on May 22nd. Also all the fraud activity was over a year ago, which must have been before you got assigned the IP.

I'm not 100% clear on the usage of blacklists from project honeypot, but I wiuld guess that most systems update their lists weekly. So I'd give it until around May 29th before taking further action.

If you continue to receive "special treatment" that indicates you're being treated as someone who has spammed or attacked before, you'll have to reach out to the sites you're getting this treatment from and either ask them to update their list from project honeypot, or tell you if there is another list elsewhere they are using.
