A SATA situation

It shouldn't do anything. power isn't ran through the sata cable, so it isnt like you will short something.

BIOS will probably spit out some odd-ball error(s), but that should be the end of it. While there may be some minute amount of current being ran through the SATA cable, it shouldn't be enough to break anything.

I've tried it. Nothing happened. No errors. No smoke. No weird detections. Not even prolonged post. Nothing. Still, I'd advice against it just to play it safe. This was some AM2+ board back in 2012 or so. I even got paid to do it. :D

A crazy customer was claiming the user manual told him to do it and it fried his RAM. I did the test to show the latter is not the case. About his first claim I was way too nice and suggested he'd "go home and bring the manual with him so he could point to me the step that told so because the manual I had on me may have been a revised version." He never came back. Go figure.

I don't think it will even have a current because there needs to be a SATA power cable.
