Need help reducing the cost of this build:

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

CPU: Intel Xeon E3-1231 V3 3.4GHz Quad-Core Processor  ($365.00 @ CPL Online)

I'll be rendering videos so this should be good

CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Nepton 240M 76.0 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler  ($119.00 @ Umart)

I might get this eventually, but at the moment, I have the Cooler Master Hyper 103

Motherboard: MSI B85-G43 GAMING ATX LGA1150 Motherboard  ($155.00 @ CPL Online)

Cheapest Motherboard with lots of USB ports

Memory: Corsair Vengeance Pro 32GB (4 x 8GB) DDR3-1600 Memory  ($199.00 @ PCCaseGear)

Might reduce this to 16gb, not sure about that one yet

Storage: Transcend SSD370 128GB 2.5" Solid State Drive  (Purchased For $0.00)

Already have this

Storage: Intel 540s 1TB 2.5" Solid State Drive  ($438.01 @ Mwave Australia)

Won't be buying this straight away, but saving up for it after buying the core components. Will be used for games

Storage: Toshiba  2TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive  (Purchased For $0.00)

Already have this

Case: Cooler Master N400 ATX Mid Tower Case  ($75.00 @ CPL Online)

HALP! I need a decent budget case with at least 1 ssd slot and 3 hdd slots

Power Supply: XFX ProSeries 1050W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply  ($219.00 @ PCCaseGear)

I know it's a bit overkill, but it's good for future proofing, might look at 750W

Optical Drive: LG GH24NSB0 DVD/CD Writer  (Purchased For $0.00)

Already have this

Operating System: Microsoft Windows 8.1 OEM (64-bit)  (Purchased For $0.00)

Already have this

Monitor: AOC G2770PQU 144Hz 27.0" Monitor  ($449.00 @ Storm Computers)
Monitor: AOC G2770PQU 144Hz 27.0" Monitor  ($449.00 @ Storm Computers)

Again, not a core component, will be saving up for these

Other: GTX 1070/1080?

I'm still looking into this. Maybe someone could give some suggestions of the 1070 vs the 1080. I was looking at around $500-600AUD
Total: $2468.01
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

  • that CPU is overpriced - should be $250
  • mother board is also overpriced
  • that's probably more RAM than you need but if you are doing video work... maybe
  • you probably don't need that massive SSD
  • that PSU is excessive, you said it yourself

That all together should shave off ~$700 give or take maybe ~$100

Solve your own audio issues  |  First Steps with RPi 3  |  Humidity & Condensation  |  Sleep & Hibernation  |  Overclocking RAM  |  Making Backups  |  Displays  |  4K / 8K / 16K / etc.  |  Do I need 80+ Platinum?

If you can read this you're using the wrong theme.  You can change it at the bottom.

AU prices are overpriced as hell. - normal prices here.

- You don't need 2x144Hz monitors. 1 max.

- PSU max 750W, SeaSonic/EVGA are the best.

- Buy a 16GB kit, and a 1 x 8GB kit. 24GB. Need 32? shove an extra 8 in there.

- 1TB is OVERKILL, put OS and core games on a 256/512GB SSD.

- Case choices:

Yeah, but I thought the 1TB SSD could come after the core components, when I have nothing else to buy. Because I dont want 2 ssds with different games on them, but just a 1tb one

Ok, I need a budget case that has good (but withing budget range) cable management room, 4 usb ports on the front and under $100AUD. The two corsair case UNDER $100AUD are both terrible for cable management
