Both situations, do I pay:

- 500$ to CPU and 1500$ for GPU

or

- 1500$ to CPU and 500$ for GPU

(these are no actual prices, just example)

What is After Effects/Premiere? CPU or GPU intensive? I'm talking about final rendering. Preview is GPU of course, but every GPU can render single frame just to preview it.

After Effects focuses more on CPU than GPU. GPU only comes into play with OpenGL.

Overall it would be better to go more on the CPU than the GPU since it is more CPU intensive (if you had to pick one). But a GPU will definitley help, from the two the second option is better. (Linus did a video comparing 8graphics cards for video rendering recently showing how a GPU can improve the time of rendering, etc.
