hi

i want to buy another HDD because the current one is running low on storage. I don't plan to buy an SSD because i leave windows where it is. i just want to extend the internal storage. i am looking for a 3,5 HDD beween the dvd-player and the HDD. but the slot is too big i think. what should i look for to make it fit?WP_20160517_20_59_48_Pro_LI.jpg

Hey Arjan :)

What's the case you are using? Are there any free slots at the bottom? Do the cables reach the bottom (both SATA and power)?

You may be able to fit a regular 3.5" HDD at that slot, but as far as I can see it is a 5.25" slot for optical drives and you may need a 5.25" to 3.5" adapter cage in order to securely place a HDD there. The guys suggested some good ones so I'd check them out.

Make sure the drive is securely and well placed in the slot as it may resonate with the case or other parts and thus cause pretty excessive noise while working.

Post back with some results when you are done :)

Hi,the case is standard. the pc was pre-build. but i nearly changed everything in it. I orderd an 1 TB WD Blue HDD and the mouting brakcets ( http://www.amazon.com/Drive-Mounting-Bracket-Adapter-Metal/dp/B0094D8UGU ) I had a spare SATA cable that came with the motherboard lying around. and the psu had 2 more spare sata-power cables over. i jammed some foam under it to reduce noise and to secure it more. After mouting the disk runs fine :). it's even faster than the primary disk.

Hey, I'm happy you got it going and everything is running smooth and problem-free. Feel free to ask if there are any other questions or something else I can help with. One note: check the temperature of the WD Blue every once in a while as the foam might cause it to run a bit hotter than usual. As long as it stays withing the recommended operating temperatures everything should be fine. You can check them and other info about the drive in its spec sheet.

Cheers!
