I am looking to upgrade my current build soon:
Current Specs:
CPU:i7-4930K (OC to 4.5ghz)
CPU Cooler: Cooler Master V8 GTS
Motherboard: Asus ROG Rampage IV Black Edition
RAM: 16Gbs Corsair Dominator Platinum 2400Mhz DDR3
GPU: Asus STRIX GTX 980
PSU: CORSAIR RM Series RM1000 1000W
SSD: SAMSUNG 840 EVO 2.5" 1TB x2
Case:Corsair Osidian 900D

I know for certain i will be upgrading to:
GPU: Asus STRIX GTX 980Ti x2 SLI (or 1080(Ti) x2 SLI)
CPU Cooler: Corsair Hydro Series H115i
RAM: 32-64gb of Corsair Dominator Platinum 3000Mhz DDR4
SSD: Samsung 950 PRO Series - 512GB PCIe NVMe (and maybe another sata SSD)

However i am currently split between these two Motherboard/CPU pairings:
*All pairing will be OC
1)
CPU: i7-5960X(pricey i know)
MoBo: ASUS ROG STRIX X99 GAMING (just released/announced)

2)
CPU: i7-6700K
MoBo: ASUS ROG MAXIMUS VIII EXTREME

Cost isn't so much the concern as RAW Power and OC capability vs how long till ill need to upgrade again. Or any suggestions you have for the upgrade. Im not interested in the AMD fanboys telling me i should get AMD instead or EVGA over Asus..... my faith in Intel and Nvidia is unwavering as is my trust in ASUS.

I would.. go with the 6700k.... mobo is personally your choice, but with this high price range idk why you're going with a combo really. Just pick a MB that suits you the most. the 6700k will do you better for price/performance than the 5960x will. If you're just gaming.. get a i5, but if you're video rendering/doing something that requires intensive cpu power, then it's your choice. watch the video, it's your money.

  1. What do you want to do with this PC? Because you are most likely doing it wrong...
  2. 2x 1080s. Forget the 980tis.
  3. Keep your current CPU. Wait for Zen / Kaby. Or at the very least 10c Brodawell E.

lol by no means is anything in this upgraded needed, everything on my current system is running great, its purely a Enthusiast Gaming build with the desire to  tweak on OC as much as possible in the future for my own amusement.

Then ditch the 32gbs of ram and the overkill SSDs and get a 6960x instead.
