For a while now i have had quite an annoying problem with Steam, whenever i download a game or a game needs to update, it starts downloading and 5-10 secs later i get thrown off my network, by that i mean im unable to connect to my modem, i can then do a network repair and it reboots my NIC, which gets gets me back on right away. Also note that this only happens with Steam for some reason, other programs like it, GOG, Battlenet etc works just fine.

So far i have reinstalled windows, reinstalled steam, updated drivers, tried different drivers, removed router from setup, tried new modem etc etc. Im suspecting its the onboard NIC on my motherbard which might be causing the problems, its a KillerNIC E2200.

I have also tried downloading from my HTPC via steam just to check out if that gets disconnected and it seems to work just fine.

I guess my question in the end is, is this what im looking for if i were to buy a PCI-E card? https://www.proshop.dk/Netvaerksadapter-netkort-printserver-mv/Gigabit-CT-Desktop-Adapter/2141886?utm_source=pricerunner&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=pricesite :$

If you mean another pc in the same spot as the pc that screws up then thats what i did, i took my HTPC next to my daily driver and connected it directly to the modem, that did not seem to have any problems downloading from steam.

Believe me when i say that i have tried pretty much everything, everything except updating to Windows 10 for example, but i cant see why that should help. The fact that its only Steam is also quite puzzling. I really want to count out the onboard NIC as the culprit and buying a PCIE NIC seems like the best plan.

Did you check the cable aswell? Before buying anything think about possible problems

Also in that site you've cheaper NICs check them as I doubt you've Gbit internet connection :P

Cable have been checked indeed, if it was the cable i would doubt only Steam would be having issues :) TP Link have some cheaper options yeah, but i just heard that Intel is the safe option, might cost a few $ more, but im okay with that.
