just used that as backup and mass storage

because you should NEVER raid 1 your system only back it up because its more usefull to have a back up of the correct data instead of copying the data into another HDD which will have the same faults as the other one(im talking about software vulnerabilities  

No, you cannot. However, you can do scheduled backups to that drive which is what I would recommend.
