uncommon not to post?

I'm about to start a new build, I have everything purchased and am waiting for everything to arrive (a few days). This is my first build and I'm just curious if it's common or not for a build not to post right from the get-go. I've done what I can to make sure the build will work, but one cant help but be a little concerned that it won't.

There is always that one cable you forget to plug in. The power cord for instance.

Well you don't know until you build it, if something doesn't work or it isn't posting that means you'll need to get a new part or so on. It's the reality of building a PC is the problem of "WILL IT POST?".

i know skylake is pretty picky with ram so there's that
