Workhourse server for minecraft server and other stuff

So i want to buy an used server from ebay and some new hdd from local shop would it be able to run minecraft server with (40 plugins) 30-70 players, camera system and media system?

Where is this server going to live? Somewhere at your house and if so, where? Or will you be co-locating the server?

You have to be honest with yourself when you are running a server for other people to access, can your internet even handle having other people traffic through it?

That is going to suck power like a baby sucks a.. uhm.. lollypop, and WD Blue's can not handle 24/7 operation for a long time.

You might want to go with Red's or purple's, if you can WD or Seagate enterprise drives. Also keep in mind that the server you selected can use SAS drives, you might want to look into this.

 

But yes this is capable of running a minecraft server.....

Purple are designed for surveillance and optimized for video but should perform about the same as WD Reds. As for a server I would look to see what you can find in the Dell R610 lineup on ebay, they are quiet and powerful.

_{I'd buy blacks or SSDs for minecraft if you're going to have more than 20 players and want to use plugins. Also I would recommend a dell R610 or R710, the 610 is 1u but only comes in 2.5" drive configurations while the R710 comes both in 2.5 and 3.5" variants. So if space allows I'd look for a Dell R710 with 3.5" drives to help keep cost per gigabyte down when ordering drives. Don't waste money on the mechanical SAS drives some sellers try to push on you, better spent on SSDs.}

He doesn't even need an r610 or r710. He could just get an r410, which is cheaper and has 3.5" drives.
