Is it still possible to overclock the i3-6100 on some motherboards because i remember that Intel said they were cracking down on motherboard manufacturers and telling them to disable the overclocking on no "k" chips.

You can still OC an i3 6100 by BCLK method, but you will need a Z170 board, and an aftermarket cooler is recommended

? IDK what you mean, but the latest BIOS version won't let you OC non-K chips as they'd to lock OC for some CPU microcodes thanks to intel =/

That link above has those BIOS that will let you OC non-k chips

sorry didn't notice the link thanks man xD

Change CPU Ratio (BLCK): 120 -> 122

Change RAM Frequency: 2133 -> 2560 (Usually this is set automatically)

Change CPU Voltage to 1.350V

Do you have an aftermarket CPU cooler? A good one can further your OC config

get a Noctua NH-D14. It is about as good as a H100i, but more often then not, quieter.

I'm in the same boat as the OP.

How far do you think I could get with a Cryorig H7?

Desktop Build:

AMD Ryzen 5 1600 | MSI b350m Mortar Arctic | 16GB DDR4 Kingston HyperX Fury | Fractal Design Define Mini C TG | 240GB Sandisk SSD Plus

Home Server Build:

Intel Core i3-6100 | ASRock Pro 4s | 16GB DDR4 Kingston HyperX Fury | Corsair 500r

H7 is like tiny bit better then a 212 Evo.

I dunno HOW far you could get, but i would assume 4.0-4.3GHz to be possible, although cooler might get loud. I dunno.

Ill be getting a i3 6100 + Gigabyte Z170MX Gaming 5 at wednsday. Ill be toying around with that, although that board doesnt have a OC Bios, so i dunno if i can OC at all. I suspect 2-4% is possible without OC BIOS, but not much more.
