Networking Question

Hi there, I'm not too informed about networking so just have a quick question.

If my internet speed is constant, and I'm on ethernet, will general Wi-Fi use impact me like it would were I also using a Wi-Fi connection? i.e If I'm playing an online game w/ ethernet will other people using Wi-Fi cause me to lag as I would were I playing a game using Wi-Fi?

It depends on your connection speed and what the devices using WiFi are doing. 

 

If we assume that you have a 20Mbps connection, then if devices using WiFi are downloading large files with the full 20Mbps bandwidth, then you're likely to see some lag or stuttering as all of the bandwidth is being used. If the devices are just browsing the internet, then it shouldn't affect you. 

There's also a matter of it depending on your access point. If you're using a router's inbuilt access point, it may get clogged down if there are too many devices connected for it to handle, which could affect your connection as well.
