i bought a used MSI GE62 2QD Apache off of ebay. it works good, but sometimes it gets a bsod with the code of 124. i read up that this could mean there's a bad memory card. no big deal i thought. i wanted to upgrade the memory and thermal compound anyways. so i opened it up, put some arctic silver 5 on the gpu and cpu, and replaced the 12gb of ddr3l memory with 16gb of brand new ddr3l memory. it booted up without issue, ran cooler, and instantly recognized all 16gb of memory. all was good for a few weeks. but now suddenly this week i get 2 bsods. both code 124. now i'm lost. what could cause this computer to crash? it sometimes happened when i tried to save a document or click a link. computer is free of viruses (as far as i know). NOTE: all bsods happen in Win7. I barely used Win10 on it, but it is on there. in the short time i've used Win10(<10hrs), it hasn't given me any issues.

if it helps here are the specs:

i7 5700hq

gtx 960m 2gb

16gb crucial ddr3l brand new

1tb seagate hdd 7200rpm

Windows 7 Home Premium x64 / Windows 10 Home x64 Dual Boot

Humm... Might be due to the compound, minuscule posibility but it might be, you'd want to reapply it using less this time, and make sure to clean any compound remains on the PCB/outside of the heatspreaders. Also i'd recommend grabbing some Noctua or Cooler Master thermal compound (cant remember names, check linus' video about compounds somewhere....) and make sure its non conductive, (although arctic silver 5 shouldnt be conductive ive read several warnings about it :o )

Planning on trying StarCitizen (Highly recommended)? STAR-NR5P-CJFR is my referal link

i used less than i would use on a desktop chip. the size of a tiny water droplet on both the cpu and gpu die. and it bsod'd before i replaced the compound with the AC5. so i don't think it's that.

Then i can only recommend a new win7 install :) Or stick to win10, see if you get the crash... Sry bout that
