So, I am starting to make plans about computer components I want in my system, keep in mind this system may not be built until next year or maybe even two years from now. I would just like to see what I can come up with now and what others thing of it as I WILL NOT be buying this exact system. Don't be too hard on me since I am very new to this whole building thing AND to forums in general as I have never really dealt with either.

Information: My budget is (I'd say) fairly big, the system (not including monitors, peripherals, external equipment) is about 3,000 USD. If you want I can put my current planned peripherals and planned monitors but I don't really see the point since that will more than likely change in the next year or so (more info on the amount and types of monitors and peripherals will be further down.)

To start off this PC will be used for video editing (such as vlogs, gaming content and photos), gaming (AAA titles, and a few others such as CS:GO, Sid Meier's Civilization and TF2), and web browsing (YouTube videos, Twitch streams, Reddit, etc.)

Rather than posting only a  PCPart Picker link, to possibly make things easier for some I will list them here as well:

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/wh4h6h (updated as of 26/4/2016 23:00 MDT)

CPU: Intel Core i7 6770K

CPU Cooler: NZXT Kraken x61

Mobo: Asus MAXIMUS VIII HERO ATX

RAM: G.Skill RipJaws V Series 32GB (2 sticks of 16GB, ik may be a little overkill)

Storage: Samsung 850 Evo-Series 500GB

GPU: Asus GeForce GTX 980Ti STRIX (x2 for 2-way SLI)

Case: Phanteks Enthoo Luxe

PSU: Corsair 850W 80+ Platinum

Optical Drive: LG WH16NS40 Blu-Ray

OS: Windows 10 (Home or Pro doesn't really matter to me)

Fans: TBD

I would want a "cockpit" monitor setup so three monitors at 2560x1440 27", running at 144Hz would be ideal. I will also want a DAC for better audio quality (or possibly a sound card), a gaming keyboard, a gaming mouse, a Blue Yeti mic, as well as some gaming headphones.

Anymore info or more detail into anything about my intentions of this setup I will be sure to answer to the best of my abilities. Thanks!

The best parts to use in a build change every few weeks, so in 1 or two years, you'll be looking at a completely different build.

The build looks great right now, except...

Do you really need a disk drive? Do you really need TWO? :P

Blu-ray, no less. I just use my PlayStation to play blue ray movies, and I'd never use a blue ray disk to store info on.

Will you be gaming across all three? Or just the center one?

If all three, you'll need more than just a single 980 ti; You could run SLI with two 980 ti's, or possibly one of the newer cards coming in the future.

i7 4790k | MSI Z97S SLI Krait Edition | G.Skill Ripjaws X 16 GB | Samsung 850 EVO 500 GB | 2x Seagate Barracuda 2TB | MSI GTX 970 Twin Frozr V | Fractal Design R4 | EVGA 650W

A gaming PC for your budget: $800 - $1000 - $1500 - $1800 - $2600 - $9001

Yeah I expect a COMPLETELY different build but I just get kinda excited about plans and I act on them xD but yeah I want at least one drive because my sister plays old gaming on CD/DVD and well I'm sure she'd want to use my computer xD also, I would be gaming mainly on the middle one but possibly on a second one as well but not all three at once. Thanks for the input!

@Pherro

hi there. Welcome to the forums.

I own the NZXT Phantom 820, ill be frank with you. DONT BUY IT.

It is fancy, it is roomy, it is great in many ways. But it aint worth the fucking cash. It creates quite a bit of noise/allows for noise to escape through the top vent and side vent. It is not especially modular in the front area. The bottom fan placements are a complete waste if you got a long PSU (Corsair AX1500i or similar length), and it is NOT easy to lug around to LAN parties.

Honestly, get a NZXT H440 Matte Black or White, or a Fractal Design S/R5 or a Corsair Carbide 600C.

The 820 AINT WORTH IT. Trust me, it just aint.

X61 or tripple rad. Tripple RAD is always better. No matter what.

The ThermalTake RIING "Ultimate" edition has some good reviews out there. It is costly, but comes with fully customisable RGB LED fans that are quite decent.

h440 isn't fun to lug at LAN's either nor is the noctis 450

i got 3 guys with h440's (including me) and one with a 450 who bring to our annual LAN

the guy with the 450 dropped it lmao

the 820 is just unwieldy. The H440 is atleast easier to grasp if nothing else. Also, it is quieter by a longshot.

You bring up good points, I'm just not a big fan of sharp edges.

then find some other case. The 820 just aint worth it. I regret buying it simply because it is horribly impractical.

Also, the nest of wires for the fancontroller is annoying as fuck. They are long, and there is like 2-4 wires "per section" of the case. Thus you get a lot of cable clutter you need to manage properly if you want to get the sidepanel on without a fight.
