Hey Everybody

I was wondering if anybody could help me out with some ideas, or got some experience regarding USB 2.0 extensions.

What I'm trying to do is:

I got my pc in my office, and I want to use my tv in the living room for some gaming with friends. So I need to extends it's peripherals to the living room about 25 meters away. (Hdmi is already in the wall and drawn to the tv)
Xbox controllers, keyboard/mouse etc.(4 ports minimum) I figured the cheapest way of doing it, is USB over cat5e. However there is a lot of mixed reviews and price ranges to find out there.

Anyone got experience in extending USB 2.0 over 25m+ distance, some personal experience with usb over cat5e? product or brand to recommend?

Another option entirely to this?

(Second pc not an option, and I dont have thunderbolt in pc so I assume thats a pricy route to take. Steam link adds too much latency for games like rocket league I've read)

Found something like this, so you got an idea what I'm looking for

Thanks for reading :)

I've used these kinds of devices (can't remember any makes or models) at work with hundreds, probably thousands of machines. Sadly to my experience the specific peripherals and machines you use make more of a difference than the adapter or cable you use. Usually laptops are more troublesome. Also old machines. Printers and webcams almost never work. Basic keyboards and mice almost always. Cat5e and Cat6 doesn't do anything. Neither does UTP/STP/FTP. I never got my hands on an original Cat5 so I can't really say anything about that. A powered hub at the away-end helps but it's by no means a certain ticket to heaven. Basically there's no way of telling beforehand if it will work or not.

I'd suggest you spend as little money as possible and use a straight cable and definitely no routers/switches/hubs.

Well I'm mostly interested in getting min. 4 xbox controllers to work (Mouse and keyboard usally always work as you said). So 1 straight active cable (If I can even get em at 25m?) would still have to get into a hub with 4 ports though right?

genuinely other than daisy chaining hubs or something, lan is probably best solution. or well http://www.amazon.com/Geplink®-Extension-Amplifier-microphone-bluetooth/dp/B00XPBRSPG/ref=sr_1_2?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1461613995&sr=1-2&keywords=30m+usb+cable

maybe there are some firewire/thunderbolt strap ons with usb hub at the end, but honestly, i personally don't think it's worth the money, plus consider the latency added too, all the extenders, changing USB to cat5 then to usb again, that with likely a hub on one end. that'll add up to a substantial amount, if work correctly at all.

if you're ok to splash out hundreds on extensions and stuff, get a small sized pc for the living room, latency decrease alone will be worth it. every step in the daisy chain will add quite a lot of it, i don't see it working out with a quality experience, maybe with the optical cable and a hub at end, depending on how quick it is at converting signal...

Yea exactly what I was thinking, though maintaining 2 gamer pc's would also come into that equation in the end, and I might end up going that route but wifey would strongly advise me to find another working solution if possible. (Apparently 4 pc's in the house is enough)

Would PC -> adapter -> Cat5e -> adapter -> Hub (Prob powered) -> controllers really add that much latency though that it will be unplayable or annoying?

As thats prob the cheapest solution. Though will a 25M active cable -> hub (powered) add less lantency?
