Microsoft and ex-computers

Hello there

 

Incase you didnt know, which is most of you, this will be very interesting.

Every year or so, Microsoft replaces EVERY single one of their 90,000 employees PCs, laptops, notebooks, tabets, ect.

 

SO, every year, millions of dollars of 1-2 year old tech in great condition is dumped and replaced.

Currently, all employes have the $3000 Lenovo X1 Carbon, so, Micirosft is dumping out $270 million dollars worth of tech in latops alone, more likely $400 millions.

They are all being replaced by SUrface Books worth $2500

 

People like me, family members of employees are what are know as scavengers. We go through the tech RECYCLING (yes, they recycle the tech they don't need), taking bits and bobs we want or need.

 

So far this year, I have gotten:

Lenovo X1 Carbon ($3000)

Kingston KC300 240GB SSD

Kingston V200 256GB Enterprise SSD

Various cases and fans

A new HP tablet

$400 worth of Bluetooth keyboards and mice

And other miscellaneous junk that I don't know what it is exactly

 

Some stuff I sell, the tablet and keyboards and mice.

Others, the Lenovo and the SSD's I keep

 

This is great because every year or so, I get near mint condition tech that is almost top of the line (because Microsoft employees need top of the line)

Just wanted to share this with you and to let and MS family members know about this

 

PS: I live where 45/50% of Microsoft employees work, so I have a better chance of getting stuff, than say, someone from the offices in Dallas or London

seriously though, you're really lucky. I wish the companies where I live did that, But they don't. I suspect the really weird politics where I live now are to blame. Instead of recycling they just throw it away and a lot of businesses here will have you arrested or involve the police if you dumpster drive.

My city has an e-waste recycling bin that's almost never emptied; I've always been tempted to go sift through it. Unfortunately it's right across from the city hall, so I'm sure I'd find myself in some sort of trouble if I did that.

Once something is thrown away into garbage or any kind if recycling container, its public property and anyone can take anything from it.

 

Pro Tip : Take a list of stuff you might find in there with you, even if its stuff you don't want. This is incase anyone questions you, and you can prove you know exactly what you want, and you just not randomly taking stuff to sell
